Newtown Was America's Wake-up Call

[No chess post today. This is one of the moments when an insignificant board game is nothing more than that.]

Fellow Americans, it's time to end the madness. Our children are being slaughtered before our eyes. This is not what the founding fathers intended when they wrote the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution:-

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

It's time to decide what those wise men meant, given the technology of their time, and to adapt their meaning to the technology of our time. Then it's time to use Article Five of the same Constitution to effect that change.

Mark: I teach after school enrichment classes on chess in five elementary schools in New jersey, similar to the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Newtown should be a wake-up call to the news media to stop giving these mass killers the notoriety that they want. In my opinion, gun control is not the solution. We should take away the incentive. Even The New York Times, which should know better, displayed a picture of the Aurora shooter on page one. This is wrong. In the Jerry Sandusky scandal, the news media reported the story without divulging the identities of the victims. The same journalistic standard should be applied to the shooters in these mass killings, like the one in Newtown. Jim West
